What is your idea of a happy family home?
“Family, like branches on a tree we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.” Whether you live in a nuclear family or in a joint family, the right home really matters either way.
It is not about the dimensions of your home, but about the way you create spaces within your home which can be of use to you, especially when you need to spend some quality time with yourself or your family.
So, how does either way of living impact the way you look for a home?
It is said that everything within your home has a purpose. So, the most important factor towards determining the right type of a home is estimating your needs, family desires and gauging the overall value system of the family members.
Here are a few ways to embrace communal living where a home can be created by bringing everyone together, while taking into account their needs and preferences.
- Consider the desires and needs of all members
While living with your family is filled with fun and flair, at the same time it is equally important that there is a synergy in deciding on what kind of a life each one wants to live. The desire of a teenager can be to have a reading area spot in the house, while for a mother it can be to have a spacious kitchen. The living setup of everyone’s preference can be achieved by knowing the likes and dislikes and then creating a home based on a common ground. - Plan the home interiors that support your lifestyles
Lifestyle, habits and rituals play a very important role in your quality of life. Right from the time each one wakes up to when someone returns back from work, schedules and habits can differ for each member of the family. For instance, there are families who follow certain value systems such as making a point to enjoy at least one meal together. While there are families who prefer more flexibility where they would prefer to do things at their own time and convenience. Based on the lifestyle preferences above, a family that dines together would prefer to invest in their dining area, on the other hand, flexible families would prefer investing in modular spaces and a smaller dining area. - Make room for personal utility and multi-purpose areas
Whether you’re a joint family or a nuclear one, each one has its own charm and benefits. If you’re living in an apartment, a great way to create some personal space is by adding partition areas using fabric, metal or movable wooden screens to create a visual break. Similarly, if you’re living in a bungalow, there can be more space that can be utilized for multiple purposes.
If you are living in a bungalow, areas for lounging, entertainment, exercising, etc. can be created based on the dynamics of the family members. - Keep it Clutter-free with a sense of circulation
Whether you have an elder person or a toddler or are simply by yourself, a clutter-free home can transform the way you live and function. The aim here is to make mobility easier and to be able to make small adjustments without hassles whenever required. A sense of circulation comes with open spaces, windows where there is sufficient air and light and is connected with nature.
The last thing to do would be to plan it in a way which is dynamic and can be easily upgraded and changed as per the need and preferences.
We at Kamlesh Gandhi Projects, keep in mind the changing lifestyles and the preferences as individuals and as a close-knit family. This is how we integrate and create spaces where united together, a family can still enjoy their personal space – which is what we all would love to achieve? Right?
